Every sport kite has it's own unique personality and will behave differently under varying conditions. However, you don't need a degree in physics to choose the right kite for you. Here we offer a glossary of terms and some basic points to aid in your decision making.
Sail:
Larger kites (8 ft. +) will be slow, deliberate, and have greater pull. The smaller the sail area, the quicker and more agile the kite is and will usually require more wind.
Diamond shaped kites are graceful, simple and look spectacular with long, sweeping tails.
Delta kites offer more precise control and can fly in lighter winds.
Frames:
- Epoxy Fiberglass is most resilient, though heavy.
- Carbon Composite retains resiliency while adding carbon for weight reduction.
- Carbon and Wrapped Carbon offers the highest degree of weight/stiffness, yet is the most fragile.
- Solid Microcarbon rods are lightweight and are usually used in small and ultralight kites as well as in stand-offs and whiskers.
